HSE Manager

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

To ensure that robust safety management systems are designed and implemented; whilst managing the delivery of an effective / efficient advisory and support service, which minimises the risks to all parties and supports the continuous improvement of overall business performance through systemic monitoring and review.

 

ACOUNTABILITIES

Ensure the company has appropriate safety management systems in place, which identify and manage the prevailing risks to our employees, customers and business partners, in accordance with legislation and best practice.

Manage the provision of guidance and advice to Directors, Managers, Supervisors and Staff; so as to enable all departments to develop appropriate safety programmes, which adequately control the risks of the various aspects of our operational and commercial activities; thereby ensuring that health & safety is incorporated as part of the overall business strategy.

Prepare, revise, communicate and monitor compliance with internal guidance documents, codes of practice and safe systems of work, in order to meet with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Manage the provision of training and advice to the organisations, Directors, Managers Supervisors and Staff, so as to ensure that they acquire the knowledge and skills required to implement their health & safety accountabilities.

Advise the organisation on the implications of current and proposed health & safety legislation; thereby ensuring that company policies, systems, process and practices remain compliant.

Plan, undertake and manage on a prioritised basis formal safety audits of departments and other business partners, so as to evaluate the implementation of our safety management systems and the safety performance of others who impact upon our operation.

Manage the provision of systems, which enable the effective monitoring, recording and investigation of accidents incidents and other modes of failure, in order to identify the actions necessary to prevent future occurrences.

Devise, develop, monitor and manage appropriate KPI’s and statistics, so as to enable the effective monitoring and measurement of health and safety performance and the outcomes of active and reactive monitoring activities.

Manage the companies insurance provision by acting as the main point of contact with our Insurers, with a view to minimising our premiums and losses.

Oversee the coordination of incident investigations including those relating to employer and public liability claims and in conjunction with our insurers; to determine effective actions regarding the management and resolution of such claims; whilst serving the interests of the Company.

Communicate with the HSE, Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service, the Local authority and other statutory and regulatory bodies as may be required, in order to meet with our statutory and regulatory obligations; whilst protecting the interests of the company.

 

Take a leading role in terms of managing the fire safety agenda and in doing so, oversee the provision of guidance and advice to Directors, Managers, Supervisors and Staff; so as to enable the company to comply with applicable legislation and best practice.

Ensure the company has appropriate documentation and management systems in place, which identify and effectively manage the prevailing fire safety risks to our employees, customers and business partners.

Maintain professional competence through a process of continuing professional development that ensures that the business is kept abreast of best practice.

 

EXPERIENCE

Achieved an appropriate health & safety qualification; which provides chartered membership status of IOSH.

Experience of working in a generalist HR advisory or management role, within a multi-disciplined organisation.

Experience of shaping the design of and ensuring the effective implementation of an appropriate Safety Management System.

Experience of developing and monitoring appropriate KPI’s that enable the effective management of performance.

Experience of driving both procedural and cultural changes, within a multi-disciplined organisation.
